Within the framework of 150 years from the
foundation of Freemasonry in Costa Rica, the First Centennial Anniversary of
the Theosophical Society of Costa Rica and 75 years of the University of Costa
Rica.
Organized by the Latin American Program of
Historical Studies of Freemasonry and Related Currents, the History of Culture
Section of the School for General Studies of the University of Costa Rica, and
the Centre for Historical Studies of the Spanish Freemasonry of the University
of Zaragoza (CEHME) (Spain).

As
announced in the First Memorandum of March 2015, we will be celebrating from November 4 - 6, 2015 the IV International Symposium on the History of Freemasonry and Related
Movements of Latin America and the Caribbean: Associated Practices and
Modernity, XVIIII – XXI Centuries organized by the Latin American Program
of Historical Studies of Freemasonry and Related Currents, the History of
Culture Section of the School for General Studies of the University of Costa
Rica, and the Centre for Historical Studies of the Spanish Freemasonry of the
University of Zaragoza (CEHME) (Spain).
The Symposium is sponsored by CEHME, the Program of
Freemasonry and Civil Society of the University of California in Los Angeles
(UCLA) (USA), the House of Advanced Studies “Don Fernando Ortiz” of the
University of Havana. Several academic
units of the University of Costa Rica are also collaborating, such as the
School of Social Sciences, the Social Research Institute and the Doctoral
Program on Society and Culture.
Workplaces and Dates:
The arrival of the
delegations and delivery of documentation material will be November 3rd.
in order to begin the work at 8:00 am the following day (November 4th),
date in which the Symposium will be inaugurated.
The sessions and the activities of the Academic Program
will be held in the Auditorio de la
Ciudad de Investigación (The Auditorium of the Research Campus) and in the Laboratorio Nacional de Materiales y Modelos
Estructurales de la Universidad de Costa Rica (National Laboratory of
Materials and Structural Models of the University of Costa Rica). Some special activities will take place outside
of the University, according to the program to be announced opportunely.
Accommodation and Food Service:
The Organization of the
Symposium suggests that participants seek accommodations in hotels close to the
University. In forthcoming dates we
will be sending all the information regarding recommended hotels which are
granting special rates for this event.
This information and any other information related to important issues,
will be also available in a web page that will be opened shortly.
Most of the hotels have breakfast included in their
prices. With respect to the other
meals, the Organization of the Symposium will be providing the participants the
possibility to buy the lunch-meal at a moderate cost, which must be acquired at
the time of picking-up the documentation on November 3rd. Also the participants will be receiving a
guide – with a map – of coffee shops and restaurants located inside and around
the university. The participants will
be able to register until November 5th and pay the appropriate fee
in order to assist to the Symposium Closing Gala Dinner, which will take place
on November 6th.
Web Page and Information:
In a short period of time
we will have a new web page available for all those who are interested and participants
to the Symposium; it will have all the necessary information about the
organization, hotels, meals, tourist information on the country, maps and
guides of the nearby areas of the Symposium Headquarters, payment of
registration fees, academic program, submission for registration of academic
papers, etc.

Participation:
Participation is open, with
or without papers, to persons from the academy, specialists and university
students, researchers on theme and the set of problems described or which are
associated to it, interested persons and the general public.
Registration and payment of participation fee:
The registration to the
Symposium must be made in advance by means of an Application Form enclosed in
this memorandum or which will be in the web page of the Symposium. This Application Form must be sent to the
following address:
- Academics, specialists, interested parties
and other persons, with or without papers:
US$100.00 (one hundred
dollars) or its equivalent in colons at the exchange rate of the day.)
- Students:
US$35.00 (thirty five dollars or its equivalent in colons at the
exchange rate of the day). The
Organization of the Symposium may grant partial or total scholarships to
students who apply for it and in accordance with reasons for its justification.
Payment of the registration fee can be made by bank
deposit or bank transference to the accounts detailed below in this
memorandum. In the new web page, soon to
be opened, there will be an automatic registration system and payment for the
registration fee so that the complete procedure is simplified and those who
wish to participate can make their registration process easy by using their
credit or debit cards.

The Scientific Commission of the Symposium will ensure a
fair evaluation of the communications before and during the event. Materials not offering the proper scientific
guarantee or deviate from usual standard practices in the academic field, will
not be accepted or published. The
Organization of the Symposium assumes the responsibility for the Minutes of the
symposium and the delivery of the Diploma of Participation.
